Family Camp

We would like to thank Bayard Dubois for his 30 some years of service to the Missouri District and your Family Camp Choir! Over those 30 years, Bayard, through his ministry of music and mentorship, has positively impacted hundreds, if not thousands, of people. His ministry to us has truly been a gift!

Earlier this year, the District NYI Council met to discuss issues regarding Family Camp and the Family Camp Choir. At the conclusion of our meeting, after much discussion, prayer, and close consultation with Pastor Palmer, our District Superintendent, we decided to move in another direction for Family Camp with regards to the choir.

Our plan allowed us to have a “farewell” year with Bayard. It was important to us, as a Council, to allow us to celebrate Bayard and his team’s commitment to our District youth. That farewell year would have been this coming camp in July of 2016. In 2017, we would have then explored other options, possibly continuing a choir, for the week of Family Camp.

A few weeks ago, Pastor Palmer spoke with Bayard by phone, informing him of our change in direction. It was Bayard’s decision to not join us for this coming year’s camp. We are saddened that we will not get one last chance to have him lead us in song, but we understand the reasons he set forth for not coming. Again, we are thankful for the sacrifices he has made to be with us these last 30 years.

Change is never easy for any of us, especially when it comes to something we have loved so well. It is the prayer of our Council and of Pastor Mike that you will join us in thanking Bayard for his many years of service as well as helping us move forward, in a positive way, into this new chapter for Family Camp.

While this year’s Family Camp will indeed be different, please know that exciting plans are underway to include youth in a special way. There will be a chance for participation in a choir for the evening services. In addition, we are planning a morning service designed especially for the teens of our District. We also hope to incorporate organized times of fellowship and play, including a time where we hope to connect with Bayard via video chat to send him our thanks and well wishes. Many details regarding specifics for Family Camp will be communicated in the following months. Please plan to join us for this special time for our District!

Thank you for your continued prayers as we work through this important transition.
