Endowment Scholarship

OUR PURPOSE
The rising costs of Christian higher education make it difficult for many of our Missouri students to afford an education at MidAmerica Nazarene University. However, getting as many students as possible to MNU is a high priority for us. Therefore, we’ve started the Missouri District Endowment Fund to plan for the future of our Missouri students and help provide Christian higher education for as many of our students as possible.

HOW IT WORKS
An endowment fund is a beautiful tool for providing long-term, financial support. The principle of the fund is invested and never touched. The scholarships are the “fruit” or the interest & earnings from the fund. Typically, we can count on at least 5-6% yield from the fund to be used for scholarships each year. The fund manager will notify us each June of how much we have to distribute in scholarships.

The Endowment Committee will meet and interview potential recipients at our NYI Convention each year and the funds will be distributed to the students’ MNU accounts directly.

The beauty of an endowment is the long-term potential. A million dollar endowment would produce over $50,000 in scholarship each year without touching the principle.

THE SELECTION
The Endowment Committee will consist of our:

  • District Superintendent
  • NYI President
  • College/Career Director
  • College/Career Representatives
  • MNU Admissions Counselor

Student Qualifications will include:

  • G.P.A. of 2.5 or above
  • Missouri District student actively involved on the district or the MNU Campus
  • Application to be submitted by July 1st Endowment Scholarship Application
  • Interview with the Endowment Committee during our NYI Convention
  • Leadership and life-style that honors God.
  • Written Recommendation of their Pastor
  • Two other personal, written recommendations. Personal Reference Form

WHO WILL MANAGE THE FUND
Dependable, consistent management of this fund is a must. Mid-America Nazarene University has personnel and investors that oversee the investment of millions of dollars. We will let them invest the money so that it will be consistent and invested wisely to provide as much “fruit” as possible.

OUR GOAL
Our goal is to raise $50,000 of principle this year. This will produce about $3,000 in scholarships in the next year. Eventually, we would like to provide at least $50,000 in scholarships, including one full-ride scholarship. Plus, we’d like to offer loan-repayment scholarships to MNU graduates who serve as pastors on the Missouri District.

HOW WILL WE REACH THIS GOAL

  • The District NYI will contribute annually to the Endowment Fund.
  • We are challenging each church to make a yearly contribution to the fund after paying their educational budget
  • We are praying for many individuals and families that will contribute.
  • We are praying for Missouri District members to consider including the Endowment Fund in your estate/will.
